Supplemental Instruction

MC101 is fortunate to have two excellent Supplemental Instruction leaders this semester.

Shushan Gabrielyan was an outstanding MC101 student during the Winter 2016 Intersession. This will be her first semester as a Supplemental Instruction leader. Her SI sessions will be on Mondays from 12:30-1:30 in CR137.

Narek Gharakhani attracted a growing group of MC101 students for his SI sessions during the Fall 2015 semester. He will return this semester. His SI sessions will be on Tuesdays (unless pre-empted by a field trip) from 12:30-1:30 in SF119.

MC101 students can earn two points per week for attending Supplemental Instruction.

Supplemental Instruction

As mentioned in class, there will be weekly optional, extra-credit MC101 study sessions. Glendale College calls these sessions Supplemental Instruction (SI). This semester, your SI instructor will be Mike Arvizu. His SI sessions will be in CS177 (the same room that our class meets in) from 1:30-2:30, on the following Mondays: Jan. 12, Jan. 26 and Feb. 2. Bring your textbook and your notes to SI sessions. Your SI leader has also created a Winter 2015 Mass Comm 101 Facebook Group.

Supplemental Instruction

***SI this week will be on Wednesday 10/15 only***

Mass Comm 101 will have two Supplemental Instruction sessions on most weeks this semester. These SI sessions are optional and extra credit.

•Tuesdays, 12:30 - 1:30 PM in SF 119 with Ally Algas.

•Wednesdays 12:30 - 1:30 PM in AD 217 with Mike Arvizu.

SI leaders don't give you the answers. They lead you to the answers. So you should bring your class notes and textbook to SI sessions.

For more information, Mike Arvizu has created a Mass Comm 101 Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/fall14si.

Supplemental Instruction

This semester, Mass Comm 101 is fortunate to have two weekly Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions. The SI sessions are reviews of material recently covered. Students should bring their books and notes, because it is not the job of an SI leader to give out answers. It is that person's job to guide the students to the answers.

Attendance at each SI session is worth two extra credit points. This semester's SI sessions will begin next week:

•On Tuesdays, Mike Arvizu will lead a session from 12:30-1:30 in AD217. Mike has created a Facebook page for his study group.

•On Thursdays, Paulina Lainez will lead a session from 12:30-1:30 in CR234.

Help Save Summer SI

Your Humble Blogger got the following email during the noon hour on Thursday. Supplemental Instruction may be canceled for summer classes, including MC101. If you believe SI should be saved, read the email below and send the emails it asks for.

Dear SI Leader and Instructors,

It has been brought to my attention that the GCC Administration will be cancelling the summer SI Program based on the assumption that students will not attend SI in summer due to longer class hours.

Those of us involved in the program know that the availability of SI workshops becomes even more critical to the successful completion of classes in the short summer session.

Many students have asked me how they can let the GCC Administration know their feelings regarding summer SI, so I am forwarding this information along.

If you or your students would like to have a voice regarding the cancellation of the summer SI Program, please send an email to:

Michael Ritterbrown (Dean of Instructional Services) at michaelr@glendale.edu.

And please include a "CC" to Dr. Mary Mirch (Vice President of Instruction) at mmirch@glendale.edu and also

Dr. Jim Riggs (Interim Superintendent/President) at jriggs@glendale.edu.

Below is the list of SI's which they are planning to cancel for the summer:

Accounting 102 (5 units)
Biology 122 (4 units) - 2 sections
Chemistry 102 (5 units)
CS/IS 101 (5 units)
CS/IS 112 (3 units)
MASS COMM 101 ( 3 units)
Math 100 (3 units)
Math 103 (5 units)
Math 146 (pending)
Physics 105 (4 units)
Psychology 106 (3 units)

If you or your students participate in SI and support the availability of the summer SI workshops, please ask them to voice their support.

Thank you for your continued support of the program,

Nancy
