Ethnic Media Still Thriving

Recession has taken a toll on nearly all media outlets, but ethnic media seems to have weathered the downturn in the economy better than most. The following National Public Radio story outlines some of the reasons why ethnic media seem to be muddling through. MC101 students felt that greater scope of coverage and creating a sense of community were keys to these media outlets maintaining their audiences and profits.

Crisis PR Is Getting Tweety

Major corporations are finding that Twitter, that microblogging site used by CNN and Mass Comm 101 (among others), is a powerful took in pubic relations crises. The Los Angeles Times reports that Dominos, Amazon and CNN have found that public relations is different in the Internet Age.

Slackers of the World, Unite! (on Facebook)

You may have seen the classic "This is your brain ... This is your brain on drugs" public service announcement. As I recall, your brain on drugs was depicted as an egg sizzling in a frying pan.

But would it be fair to update that classic PSA by having the announcer gravely intone "This is your brain on Facebook." Recent research suggests that Facebook users have lower grade point averages than non-Facebook users.
