What effect does simultaneous release effect on awards. Obviously for the academy awards need to be shown 7 days in LA or NY to be eligible, but does dropping the movie on DVD 4 days later effect it's award eligibility?
I think one of the interesting thing about DVD purchase over going to the movie theater has a lot to do with movie price. Even if my wife and I go to the movie theaters were dropping almost $20 which is the price of purchasing the movie.
I really think that idea to use the ticket as a coupon to buy the DVD cheaper in a theater is a decent idea in theory, but in the realm of online marketplaces (ebay, amazon, etc.) those things will be rapidly disemintated through society and I think that the companies behind the DVD release would loose a lot of money over a little increase theater revenue.
Just some thoughts.
